The current position

The 2009-2010 season was one of our most successful yet, both on and off the field. On the field we saw Lusitânia Brazil crowned League Champions, with Poland coming second and Spain third. The IDS Dipomatic Cup was won by Lusitânia who beat Poland 3-1 in the final, the same result occured when the two teams met a week later in the Final of the End of Season MB Memorial Tournament. Ireland beat Spain 4-2 in the Plate final. Teams have improved on recent years and throughout the season, there were no easy games. It has become a very competitive league eventhough Lusitânia Brazil managed to win three competitions (League, Diplomatic Cup & End of Season MB Memorial Tournament Winners).

Off the field, we have endeavored to increase our profile. We have been featured on ESPN, the BBC London website, the Diplomat Magazine, had articles and results in the local press and have also been included on UK/South American websites and media. There are weekly articles featuring some teams in the Press (Brazilian News, la Tribuna and The Irish Word to name a few) the League has in the past also been featured at length on Lithuanian and Colombian television, some teams have their own web-sites.

Eight teams took part in the DFA-IFLeague 2009-1010 competition: Lusitânia Brazil; Ecuador; France; Ireland; Japan; Panama; Poland; and Spain. New teams were invited to take part in the Diplomatic Cup competition with Russia playing in the Preliminary round.
