Headlines

Cold wintery frosty but sunny morning in Wandsworth Common and even though the pitches were a bit hard four matches were played on Saturday, 04 February 2012 counting for League Round XI. On Pitch 4 we had the joint second placed teams playing for a win as a draw would almost give Lusitania Brazil the champioship. Events turned out to be very one sided with Poland aided by two goals from Rafal Kaleta easy 4-0 winners against a Panama team who not long ago were leaders and are now in danger of losing 3rd place. On Pitch 2, the current leaders and last season champions played in a very enthraling match. Lusitania Brazil started better and scored twice in first half that they dominated. When the Brazilians scored a third time five minutes into the secong half the match seemed over, but someone forgot to tell that to the French players who five minutes later were very much back in the game with two goals in a crazy three minute period. When Lusitania Brazil had a player sent off (2nd yellow card offense) with 30m still left to play the French players believed the match was there for the taking, however, with a very solid defensive display the team in yellow managed to held on to a very important win on their quest for the championship. On pitch 3 Ireland easily dispatched of Wales by a 4-0 score with four different goal scorers. On Pitch 1 Japan and Spain played a very entertaining 1-1 draw. Japan scored in the first half and when the win looked likely back came Spain with a goal scored in the last minute to draw the match. Just a note of sadness for the sending off of a Spanish player after the match had finished for words directed at the refeere!
