Two great close matches were played on the last Saturday of matches before the League Xmas break. On pitch 2 Ireland entertained Panama with the game ending all square. Ireland took an early lead and Panama needed to dig deep and with their cavalier attitude were soon in front. Ireland showing their fighting spirit levelled the score almost immediately. In the second half Warren Greaves scored is second goal of the match for Panama and what looked like the match winner, however, Ireland's Emmet Egan had other ideas and also with his second goal of the game replied making the the final score a 3-3 draw.
With this result, Panama who had been setting the pace for most of the season, dropped to second place in the table behind new leaders Lusitania Brazil who entertained Poland on pitch 4.
Another great and close match was played between two of longest DFA-IFLeague serving sides. With both sides playing attacking footbal it was a surprise when half time was reached with no goals being scored with both sides wasting some great chances. However, the second half started with Poland drawing first blood by scoring on the first minute after the restart. Lusitania Brazil who have a tendency to start slowly took the bite and went on the offensive looking for a goal. After 55 minutes Sergiomar Silva with a great finish, after a nice assist, levelled the match. With both teams knowing that a draw would not suit them went on the offensive and we witnessed 30 minutes of attacking football. With both sets of forwards being wasteful in front of goal it looked like the match would end all square. However the game was turned on its head with 3 goals being scored in the last 5 minutes. Lusitania Brazil went ahead, after 85 minutes, with what looked like a rather fortunous goal but there was nothing fortunous wih their third scored 4 minutes later. Sergiomar Silva received the ball still in his own half and galoping towarsd the Polish goal showing great control and technic unleashed a stunning shot that finished in the top corner and ended Polands hopes. There was still time for Slawek Kowaslki, the Polish Manager, who had just come on the pitch score with his first touch and what proved to be the last action of the game as the referee blew for full time. The final score 3-2 in favour of Lusitania Brazil. With their win and Panama's draw Lusitania Brazil are the winter champions. Bring on 2012!
