The 2011-2012 DFA-IFLeague Diplomatic Cup Quarter-Finals were played on Saturday, 28 January, in Wandsworth Common. On pitch No. 1 we saw Japan entertain the EnglandFans who had surprisingly beaten France in the Preliminary Round. Much was expected of the English team but in the end they could not keep up with the fast pace of the Japanese players who even though conceded first ended up 5-2 winners. On pitch 2 we had what turned out to be the most even match of the round and a single goal by Benny Ryan proved enough to secure a 1-0 Ireland win against Panama. On pitch 3 Lusitania Brazil easily beat Wales, the Brazilian team were always on top and all though Wales held on for over 20m once the first goal was scored there was only going to be one winner and Lusitania Brazil proved too strong for the Welsh. Three goals in each half gave Lusitania Brazil an easy 6-0 win and safe passage to the semi-finals. One moment of madness between two Welsh players almost saw both being sent off but after a quiet word from the Referee the match went on and common sense prevailed. On pitch 4 probably the match of the round took place and even though Poland had the ball and most of the posession it was Spain with 2 goals their fast forward, Vidal Buika, that earned last years winners Spain the final place in the semi-finals.
